Where is Cootamundra?

Cootamundra is located in the Riverina, which is in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales. It is a beautiful country town, with an impressive mix of spectacular countryside, coffee and eateries, and outdoor experiences.

We lie 334m above sea level with the climate being warm and temperate. Cootamundra has a significant amount of rainfall during the year. This is true even for the driest month. In Cootamundra, the average annual temperature is 15.2 °C | 59.4 °F. Precipitation here is about 677 mm | 26.7 inch per year.

The driest month is February, with 41 mm | 1.6 inch of rain. With an average of 70 mm | 2.8 inch, the most precipitation falls in October.

What is the average monthly temperature?

January is the warmest month of the year. The temperature in January averages 23.5 °C | 74.3 °F. July has the lowest average temperature of the year. It is 7.2 °C | 45.0 °F.

Is there an Information Centre?

The Cootamundra Visitor Information Centre is located on Hovell Street just next to the Cootamundra Railway Station. It is a place to find out about what to see and where to go in Cootamundra, and also experience the Heritage Museum (by gold coin donation), and share a cup of tea with the local volunteers.

How can I travel from Cootamundra Train Station to area hotels?

Cootamundra Is lucky enough to have a Taxi Rank, just off the main street of Cootamundra ( Bourke Street). The drivers are all fully accredited taxi’s and are equipped with security camera’s and GPS tracking for your safety. Eftpos is available for your convenience and bookings can be taken for collection from the train station in the early hours of the morning.

What historical places can I visit in Cootamundra?

Cootamundra has a rich and diverse history, with so much to keep the history buff intrigued for days on end. From the Cootamundra Heritage Centre and Bradman’s birthplace Museum’s on permanent exhibition, to the Heritage buildings lining the main street of Cootamundra, Cootamundra has history seeping out of its pores.

Stockinbingal has the ‘Stockinbingal Heritage Walk’ that is sign posted with information to take yourself on a self-guided tour.

Where are the best places to eat and drink in Cootamundra?

There are plenty of great spots to eat and drink in Cootamundra. Cootamundra prides itself on our excellent coffee, with numerous cafes mastering the art of the perfect drop. If a nice morning breakfast is what your after, the cafes in Wallendoon street provide local produce and locally roasted coffee. If dinner and drinks is what your after many of our pubs in the main street have lovely beer gardens great for relaxing and watching the sunset. What is there to do in Cootamundra after- dark?

Currently two trees in the mains street of Cootamundra (Parker Street) have been magically wrapped with fairy lights and give the main street an extra twinkle. They provide the feeling of joy and happiness in the community and are great photo opportunity.

There are numerous pubs, clubs and places to have a refreshing beverage in Cootamundra. Enjoy dinner with family and friends, while watching the sunset in our numerous beer gardens.

Where are the best places to cycle in Cootamundra?

We have created an interactive cycling map with routes being added to this map constantly. With wide streets, beautiful heritage and architecture and scenery, there are so many opportunities for cycling routes around Cootamundra. We also have the BMX track behind the Golf-Course and Pump track at Stockinbingal for people wanting a bit more paced riding.

I’m here for a few hours on a train/bus stop over, where will I be dropped off, and what can I do while I am in the area?

If you are travelling by train or bus, your stop over will be at the lovely Cootamundra Railway Station. At the Station there is a cafe called Coota Rail Cafe which has all your sweet treats covered and a lovely coffee to go with it. Just next door is the Cootamundra Visitor Information and Heritage Centre Museum, which you can explore Cootamundra’s rich history through the museum (entry by gold coin donation) and also share a cup of tea with a local volunteer. Just across the road from the Heritage Centre is Albert Park, fully equipped with a play gym, public toilets, cricket oval and lots of space to stretch your legs. On a lovely summers days its a great spot to lay down under the shade of the trees and read a book, and all not to far from the Railway Station.


Events

When does the Cootamundra Touch Football Carnival take place?

Coota Touch Football Carnival takes place every summer in mid January at Nicholson and Fisher Park’s. This event is the longest running carnival in our area. Teams travel from a far to compete in the Carnival every year.

When does the Cootamundra beach Volleyball Carnival take place?

We’re extremely proud of the efforts that go into creating the Coota Beach Volleyball event each year held in Murray street (behind Woolworths). The event takes place in the middle of February each year. Sand is brought in each year by the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council (in conjunction with the Coota Beach Volleyball Committee), and over weekend event, over 120+ teams attend, with lots of fun to be had.

What about the Cootamundra Wattle Time Street Parade and Fair?

The Cootamundra Wattle Time Fair and Street Parade is on the last Saturday of August every year. Celebrate with them by kicking off the day in Fisher Park, with markets, stalls, entertainment, activities for the kids and much more!

From there the Street Parade will commence at noon down Parker Street (main street of Cootamundra), with a wide variety of displays from floats, carts, buses, cars and other walking groups supporting the annual event and showing off their artistic talents.
